Bread Upma

Bread upma
Ingredients:
  • Bread - 7 slices
  • Onion - 1 large
  • Tomato - 2 small/ 1 medium
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • Green chilly - 1 or 2 nos
  • Ginger - 1/2 inch
  • Hing/ Asafoetida - Pinch
  • Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Red Chilly Powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Cilantro leaves - handful
  • Fine sev - handful (optional)
Method:
  • Cut the bread to squares.
  • Heat oil in a kadai. When oil is hot, add mustard seeds.
  • When it starts spluttering, add hing, grated ginger, finely chopped green chilly and saute for a minute.
  • Add finely chopped onion and saute till it turns translucent.
  • Add tomatoes, de-seeded and finely chopped to the kadai and saute till they turn mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder and salt. Mix well.
  • It is optional to add 1/4 cup water at this stage.
  • Add lemon juice and cook closed for 2minutes.
  • Add bread pieces and mix well.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro and sev.
  • Serve hot.
