Ginger Chutney / Allam Chutney

Serves 2

Ingredients:
  • Ginger - 2 inch piece
  • Red Chilly - 1 or 2 nos
  • Jaggery Powder - 1/2 to 1 tbsp
  • Tamarind concentrate - 1 tsp
  • Urad Dal - 1 tsp
  • Chana Dal - 1 tsp
  • Onion - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
Method:

  • Heat oil in a pan on medium flame.
  • Add urad dal, chana dal and red chilly. Saute till golden.
  • Further add onion and let it turn translucent.  
  • Add chopped ginger and saute till ginger is roasted well.
  • Switch off the stove and add jaggery powder and tamarind extract as per taste.
  • Transfer to a mixer jar or mortar pestle and grind to a chutney. I used mortar pestle to grind instead of mixi.


  • Serve with hot pesarattu.
